Your Mission? See the San Antonio Missions

Last year, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee approved a list of just five cultural sites around the globe worthy of inscription on the prestigious World Heritage List. The only U.S. site to make it onto the list? The San Antonio Missions. The site comprises five not-to-be-missed Spanish Colonial mission complexes that stretch seven-plus miles along the San Antonio River (plus Rancho de Cabras to the south). They were built by 18th century Franciscan missionaries and tell the story of Spain’s goal to colonize New Spain and evangelize its indigenous people. After day (or more) exploring these historic structures, head back to our San Antonio hotel just steps from the Alamo (one of the five World Heritage-designated sites) for a Lone Star beer in Ernie’s Bar.

Address: Along the San Antonio River, south of downtown
