Oktoberfest in the Lone Star State

Everyone knows that Texas culture has been deeply influenced by its neighbor to the south. But Texas's relationship with German culture may be surprising and less well-known. The Texan-German connection makes the Lone Star State’s celebrations of Oktoberfest a surprisingly authentic affair. Consider Wurstfest, a "ten day salute to sausage," in New Braunfels. New Braunfels is located in Hill Country between San Antonio and Austin, where many Germans settled in the 19th century. In 2014, over 100,000 visited Wurstfest. To get a taste for all things German - schnitzel, beer, wine, and music - consider the Beethoven Halle Oktoberfest, located at 522 Pereida, just ten minutes away from the Crockett Hotel. There's no better time than October to uncover and enjoy the lesser-known influence of German culture in Texas.
